Matthew Gee, Trombone
Currently Principal Trombone of the Orchestra of the Scottish Opera, Matthew has enjoyed a successful start to his career, including work with the London Symphony, the BBC Symphony, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, as well as trials for Principal Trombone with the London Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Royal Scottish National Orchestras. Furthermore, Matthew has travelled to Austria to work with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
Having started playing the trombone at the age of seven, Matthew quickly progressed, and successfully auditioned for the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain, while being tutored by Chris Jeans, and advanced to the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. Three years of working with the Orchestra resulted in promotion to section principal, a position he held for a further two years.
While studying for a degree in music at King's College, London, Matthew reached the brass final of the BBC Young Musician of the Year 2002, and achieved positions in the European Union Youth Orchestra, the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and the Janacek Youth Philharmonic. After graduating from Kings with a 2:1, Matthew continued his studies as a Postgraduate at the Royal College of Music, from where he graduated in 2005.
